Why this Democratic Party is Hiding their 2024 Election Autopsy: A Deep Dive.

The decision from the Democratic National Committee to block the release of its own post-election analysis concerning the last presidential race is stunning yet to be expected. Opposed to frank assessments, the party's leadership apparatus often functions more like a publicity machine than an electoral entity committed to cultivating grassroots capacities to secure victories.

An Environment That Avoids Dissent

Reluctant to challenge the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the DNC has remained under the Biden-Harris shadow throughout this past year. Making public such a report could have demonstrated that the leadership are interested to foster open debate about the strategic failures that paved the way for Donald Trump to win re-election. Yet, the committee is acting as if there's nothing to understand following the stunning loss from the last cycle.

"Here’s our North Star: does this help us win? Should the answer be negative, it’s a distraction from our fundamental goal," a justification that has been offered to justify concealing the report.

Critical Problems a Report Would Have Addressed

Any valuable post-mortem of substance would not dodge key points of failure. Among them are:

  • Electoral Alienation: Failing to retain of a significant portion of the electorate who supported the party's candidate in 2020 proved pivotal during the tight recent race.
  • A Decision to Seek Re-election: The stubborn choice by a party leader to run again, and a very late step-aside, is seen by some as denying the party's base the chance for a competitive nomination process.
  • Abandoning Everyday Americans: During a time of economic anxiety, the campaign is criticized for accommodating corporate donors' interests and not managing to confront the effects of corporate greed.
  • The Foreign Policy Factor: An unwillingness to adjust a policy position regarding a major international conflict allegedly caused driving away key demographic groups, particularly among youth voters, Arab American communities, and Muslim Americans.
  • Losing Young Voter Allegiance: Polling data shows a major decline in support for the party from the youth electorate.

A Record Avoiding Accountability

This refusal aligns with a longstanding habit to avoid hard truths. It recalls a dynamic where virtually every elected Democrat in Washington acquiesced to an incumbent's decision for seeking another term right up until a poor public debate performance forced an exit.

Meanwhile, large majorities of the electorate were consistently telling surveyors that they opposed that candidate to run again.

Financial Concerns

An honest report could probe questions about where money went, such as how much money went to party strategists and advertising contractors during a campaign that managed to spend an enormous sum during the general election.

A Larger Implication

Fundamentally, the blockage surrounding this report is symptomatic of a deference toward the existing power structure who engineered a losing national race. The signal to rank-and-file members – including millions of dedicated activists – is that they do not be trusted to know the lessons the leadership have learned based on an analysis based on extensive interviews.

A political entity incapable to publicly examine its own failings is unlikely to break free from the cycle that ended up being so beneficial to their opponents.
